Rhetoric Devices

If you know me very well I can be a very sarcastic person. I don’t use it in a mean or offensive way but more of a way for humor. I can say I use it a lot in conversations with friends or even paper I write. The sarcasm just shows a deeper understanding to the topic and in the end we all just laugh at it because we think of the most ridiculous way to make each other understand what were talking about. I probably used it in my speech in the past week because I didn’t know how to demonstrate my topic so I kind of acted out a scene from a movie. Which turned out to be a great tool and the audience was definitely on the same track as me. Another rhetoric tool I use is a hyperbole. This I use almost everyday such as phrases like the “ the weather is hot as hell”, we all know it can’t get that hot. But I say it to show how hot it is and people understand that I'm burning in the sun and its time for a quick stop at the beach. Therefore I use many rhetorical devices in my everyday life just to express myself to others in a stronger way.

  1. I love it when people use sarcasm because I use it very often. People who do not know me well might take it the wrong way and be offended, even though it was never my intention. So I have to be careful when I am around new people, so my first impression to them won’t be one of an arrogant person. I found it really interesting and cool that you acted out a scene for your class, when you couldn’t find the right words to help them understand what you were trying to convey. When in doubt, act it out.

  2. I am a very sarcastic person as well. Being a very silly and funny person, I use the rhetorical device most of the day. Some people can find it very offensive, howevever. On the other hand, some people find me so hilarious. Just like how you use sarcasm when you converse with friends and in paper, I use sarcasm as well through phone texting and onine chatting. I feel like it is true that you're displaying a deeper understanding of a situation or concept when you use sarcasm because your'e definitely looking at reality in another way. I have also used hyperbole and as a girl, I use it a lot.

  3. Hi! I use sarcasm all the time and like you, use it humorously and not to be offensive or anything. The text says ‘sarcasm is anything but funny to its intended target.’ I don’t really agree with that because although I’m sure it can be taken negatively, I don’t think that’s always the case. I definitely use hyperboles a lot. This chapter made me feel so dramatic lol but I’ve totally compared the heat to hell as well or a headache as being hit with a brick which is totally exaggerating reality. I feel like hyperboles just help get your point across faster.
